National Air and Space Museum Volunteers

Please contact the National Air and Space Museum directly for more information on volunteer opportunities.

The National Air and Space Museum is looking for volunteers to work weekends and weekday afternoons at the National Mall (downtown) location. Currently the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (Hazy) is fully staffed. If you are interested in volunteering at Hazy, you may ask to be placed on a waiting list until volunteer opportunities become available. The museum requires a minimum of 8 volunteer hours a month (two 4-hour shifts), for at least 6 months, initially.

If you are selected to volunteer for the program, training sessions will be held twice each year in the Fall and Spring. The training sessions will consist of 2 consecutive days of training at our National Mall (downtown) location, held on Saturdays.

For more information, please call the Welcome Desk at 202-633-2214, or email nasm-visitorservices@si.edu.

In addition to getting to be a part of the most visited museum in the world, museum volunteers enjoy benefits such as:

  • Access to special lectures, events, and training about/on the museum's collections.
  • Discounts at Museum Stores, select food court areas, and on IMAX and Planetarium shows.
  • Discounts at select nearby museums and institutions.
  • Behind-the-scenes perspective of the world's most visited museum.
  • Flexibility to work at both locations (transportation can be provided if needed from one location to the other).
  • Free parking at the Udvar-Hazy Center and limited parking at the National Mall Building.

Prospective volunteers can learn more about the program by clicking here or by contacting Visitor Services staff at nasm-visitorservices@si.edu or 202-633-2214.
